SUBJECT ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY [ Pi Day ]
π - DAY
In association with Pi-day on March 14, 2022, we the students of Mathematics optional planned to organize a discussion about Pi day is order to remember this day which is associated with Math. Pi day is an unofficial holiday that celebrates the mathematical constant Pi. It is celebrated on March 14 in countries that follow the month/date/year format because the digits in the date (3/14) corresponds to first three digits of (3.14) value of Pi. Pi day on March 14 also coincides with Albert Einstein's birthday. Pi (π) as a symbol never fails to enchant students. The curiosity associated with this Greek letter and its usage is extraordinary. As part of our subject association activity, we observed pi day on 18th March 2022.
This day is an annual event that celebrates mathematical concepts and achievements behind the symbol π. We condercled π-day celebration with the aim of learning about this seemingly enigmatic constant and to witness more appreciation and enthusiasm for maths. Our association secretary Silpa coordinated the session. Two groups were formed Team A and Team B. Anju representing Team A explained about the importance of Pi-day celebration. She explained about the math lessons that explored the concepts of circles and properties of circles and introduced the concept of Pi to the students. She explained the conceptual details of the ratio of circumference of a circle to its diameter. This explanation has actually helped to create oppurtunities for incidental learning where they can develop an age appropriate awareness and understanding of concepts.
Another student Silpa representing Team B explained the uses and application of the constard Pi is various fields. She explained about the use of Pi in electrical engineering to solve problems for electrical applications, statisticians, Medical field to study the structure of eye, biochemists to study the structure of DNA, clock designers to design pendulum, and by aircraft designers.
The entire programme was supervised by our class teacher Ms. Devina Mohan A S. She arranged competition to memorize the digits of π. She asked all of us to write down the digits of π, each of us were aware of. This day is for all the math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi. Naveen and Hemandh scored first and second position rtespectively in the competition. They explained the tricks they used to easily the remember the value of π.
Overall it was a fun-filled learning experience for the students which helped them to develop a sense of appreciation for astonishing π. At last, our association secretary Silpa concluded the session by expressing special thanks to all winners and to all involved in making this π-day observation a success.
